"Giving up the Rules"

"To know what you prefer, instead of humbly saying "Amen" to what the world tells you
you ought to prefer, is to have kept your soul alive."
~ Robert Louis Stevenson

While working on my monthly newsletter for March, my husband said, “Hey, take a break.  I will write it for you this month.” My antennae shot straight up but I acquiesced, comforted by the caveat that if I didn’t find it appropriate, I had the right to replace it with one of my own origin.

Please enjoy the following… from Bill Koehler:

Susan,

Sometimes, less is more.  Sometimes paragraphs can be replaced with simple sentences, bullet points. Sometimes direction can be replaced by suggestions without interpretations.  Let the reader adopt their own meanings to the written words.   We are all in different places at different times so interpretations are often relative.

Please accept my content as follows:

  • Be impressed by the magnificence of it all, the metaphysical, the “beyond the obvious physical”.
  • Be aware of the seasons.
  • Get some sun each day (at least 5-10 minutes).
  • Practice lucid dreaming - answers will come.
  • Seek quiet environments.
  • Seek out beauty.
  • Don’t become unduly attached to things. (Consider how many wars have been waged over rocks and sand.)
  • Don’t be unduly concerned about what others think of you, but seek suggestive criticism that can positively influence your results and the achievement of your personal goals.
  • Give criticism sparingly and only if you really think it can help someone.
  • Keep learning.   Absorb knowledge like a dry sponge absorbs a drop of water.
  • Drink more water.   It is the first and only true medicine.
  • Keep challenging yourself.
  • Be optimistic.
  • Be grateful and express it boldly.
  • Give yourself to others.  You’ll be surprised at how much you’ll receive in return.
  • Have integrity.
  • Take personal responsibility for your well-being.
  • Keep a journal.   It does help put things into perspective.
  • Never retire, but do change the nature of your work from time to time.
  • Keep an open mind.
  • Don’t be afraid to build exceptional goals for yourself and then pay attention to the rewards that surface from the journey you take while trying to turn them into reality through achievement.
  • Tell Susan how much you enjoyed this newsletter by responding to Bill @ wdkoehler@asitisinc.com !
